Gergana's experience on Unibuddy

Part of the role of a Student Ambassador which I found the most enjoyable and helped me develop my communication skills was my time using the Unibuddy platform. Let me share with you my experience.

The role of a Student Ambassador at the University of Edinburgh was the perfect opportunity for me while pursuing my Master’s degree. As a Postgraduate student this role provides enough flexibility for you to be able to complete the workload from your degree, while also gaining additional experience.

As well as working on Open Days and Offer Holder days, talking to perspective students about my experience at the University of Edinburgh and sharing my take on student life, I was able to work various other events, such as Conferences and talks by the different schools at the university, as an Events Assistant. This was particularly of interest to me as I have always been curious to see how events are organised and what goes on behind the scenes.

Another part of the role of a Student Ambassador which I found the most enjoyable and helped me develop my communication skills was my time using the Unibuddy platform. Through the platform prospective students are able to contact Student Ambassadors directly in the form of chat messages and ask questions about student life, Edinburgh and the courses which they might be interested in. As each Student Ambassador has their own profile with a biography outlining their course and interests, it made the experience very personalised and prospective students were able to ask me more specific questions, for instance about the courses I have taken and my experience in the School of Literatures, Languages and Culture. I particularly liked using Unibuddy as it can be used from anywhere, as long as you’re in the UK, therefore providing more flexibility if I didn’t have lectures that day and was not on campus I could still work regardless.

Overall, my experience as a Student Ambassador at the University of Edinburgh has been one of the highlights from my time at the university. I was able to improve my communication, organisational and time management skills and was able to choose my shifts based on my own availability, which was very helpful during my postgraduate degree.
